Description 🔉

For sale is a rare “Plum Blossom Sword”, a pattern prescribed for Chinese Nationalist Army officers under the 1936 uniform regulations. The sword takes its name from the three plum blossoms decorating its handle. Most surviving examples are in poor condition.

In January 1936, the National Government introduced uniform regulations establishing a standard pattern for army officers’ swords. The commemorative swords presented in June 1936 to graduates of the Tenth First Corps of the Central Army Officer Academy followed this pattern.

During his rule, Chiang Kai-shek was known for presenting quality swords to dignitaries and commanding officers. He also introduced uniform regulations for officers, to which this example conforms.

Although comparable in size to a knife, this weapon is classified as a short sword under Chinese Army regulations. No provenance.

**Condition:**
In excellent overall condition, retaining the original finish on the scabbard, with very light pitting to the blade, as shown in the photographs.

**Reference:**
*Chinese Nationalist Officers’ Daggers in World War II: 80th Anniversary of Victory in the War of Resistance Against Japan and the Retrocession of Taiwan*, published in 2026. This publication is currently available only in Mandarin Chinese; no English edition is available.
