Description 🔉

A lovely 18th century Mother of Pearl Panel of St. Francis receiving the Stigmata, with detail inked in red and black, measuring 15.75 x 10 cms. It has a little damage, but it displays well and is an extremely important artistic and devotional item. The wooden body of the piece has some old worm holes and distinctly bears the marks of chisel and saw, which confirm this item as an early piece. It may be Spanish, although similar work is found in Spanish Colonies elsewhere in the World. It has been suggested that it may be Italian, although through experience, it has a certain naivety and lacks the craftsman of Italian Post Renaissance Devotional items.

  • Abbott Antiques is a small business selling antique and collectable quality items at affordable prices. We specialise in Curiosities, Religious pieces, Items of Provenance, miniature, rare and interesting items, although as a general dealer we sell a variety of items. Our belief is to encourage people in their collecting. We have many years of experience, having traded from our shop, various Antique Centres in Norfolk, selling both to local and international collectors and dealers. We offer also a 'finding service' and undertake research, at no extra cost. Personally, we collect little, although we are very fond of automata, having a small collection of such items.
