The portrait of Rev. Robert Hill (1746-1831) of Hough Hall is an oil on canvas, signed Keeling 1805 in the left corner. The painting has been relined and reframed. The dimensions of the painting are 50 x 40(127 x 101.5 cm).
Please note, Rev Robert Hill (1746-1831) of Hough Hall was also the Rector of Bolas Magna in Shropshire. He was a brother to Sir Richard Hill, and his siblings were well-known English preachers and evangelists in the 18th century. He was married to Mary Wilbraham and inherited Hough Hall. The estate of Hough and Wynbunbury church are depicted in the background of the painting.
The portraits provenance can be traced by descent through the Hill family. For further information on the Hill family, refer to The Hills of Hawkstone and Attingham by Joanna Hill, published by Phillimore & Co., 2005.
