A lovely Micro-mosaic Cross, made in Italy, to celebrate the Inauguration of His Pontificate of Pope Pius XI in 1922. The design lends much of its inspiration to the ancient artistic process of 'Pietra Dura' (stone-work), a pattern made up of little glass/stone or ceramic pieces. There is some damage, but overall it is a delightful piece. It measures 6.5 x 4.5 cms. (close-up photographs from our electronic microscope).
