Description 🔉

A rare example of an Irish Volunteers flintlock steel barrelled blunderbuss. During the Napoleonic wars, Irish Volunteers favoured blunderbusses in contrast to their English counterparts and ordered numerous obsolete examples from England to outfit their troops in preparation for an invasion by Napoleon Bonaparte.

This blunderbuss is in good condition minus a single bolt which screws on the lock plate and displays the Tower private proof marks (Crossed sceptre and crown) on the barrel. No name is visible on the lock plate but the NAM have a similar example attributed to a York manufacturer.

Length:

33 inches without bayonet.
45.5 inches with bayonet.
