Description 🔉

An 18th century Spanish portrait features Felipe V adorned with the Order of the Fleece and dressed in full armour. The unframed dimensions are 75 cm x 100 cm, while the frameddimensions are 90 cm x 117 cm. The frame, a later addition, encompasses the piece. The portrait gains inspiration from the renowned official depiction of Philip V by Louis Michel van Loo (1707–1771), where the king is shown wearing full armour and the Order of the Golden Fleece. In this rendition, Felipe V is portrayed gripping a baton at shoulder height.

During the reign of Philip V, numerous replications of this portrait were commissioned to circulate his image across the kingdom. Van Loo himself created multiple versions of this iconic piece with original works located in the Louvre and the Prado Museum in Madrid. This specific painting is believed to be from the late 18th or early 19th century, but the artists identity remains unknown.
