Description 🔉

A beautiful 1827 pattern flag officers George V naval sword by Gieves. Named to Rear Admiral W. K. Weston, OBE (Order of the British Empire), CB (Companion of the Order of the Bath). The sword is in very good condition, though there is some mild staining on the fish skin and the guard has mild blemishes in places. The scabbard is still gilded in 24ct gold.

Biography:

Weston was promoted to Commander on June 30, 1938. He served as the Engineer Commander of HMS Inglefield from January 1939 to August 1940 and in the Engineer-in-Chiefs Department, Whitehall, from August 1940 to February 1944. He was appointed to HMS Satyr from February to April 1944, then posted to HMS Kenya. He later served as the Acting Engineer Captain of HMS Tyne in July 1945. It is unknown when he was promoted to Commodore.

Rear Admiral (E) W. K. Weston, OBE, was promoted to Rear Admiral on September 27, 1954. He was appointed to the staff of the Commander-in-Chief, Plymouth, on October 2, 1954. During his service as the Admiralty Engineer Overseer for the North Western District from 1951 to 1953, he was promoted to Rear Admiral (E). From 1948 to 1951, he was in charge of the Naval Marine Wing of the National Gas Turbine Establishment at Pyestock. He retired on January 31, 1958, and passed away on March 10, 1992.
