Description

Extremely tactile wooden plumbers turnpin

Turnpins were used by plumbers to open up the end of lead pipes in preparation for making a soldered joint.
Conical in shape, the tapered point would be inserted into the end of the lead pipe and driven in to uniformly expand the pipe by tapping the broad end with a mallet.
Lead pipes have been banned for over 50 years and so these tools are largely redundant.

Obviously used condition but with a lovely patina and a very pleasing shape to hold. Has 'JO' stamped into one side (see photos)

Dimensions: Height 4 1/2" (11.5cms) Width at base: 3" (76cms)
