Model of HMS Superb built by FT Pickering on the Instructions of John Slade Esq who's ancestor Sir Thomas Slade built the ship in 1760. HMS Suburb was a 74 gun third rate first launched at Deptford Dockyard on the 27th of October 1760. The Superb was the flagship of Admiral Edward Hughes in which it performed well in a series of engagements with the French in 1782. On the 20th of June 1783, the Superb took part in the battle of Cuddalore before returning to Bombay for copper Sheathing along her hull. In November, she developed a severe leak through her sheathing and sank at Tellicherry Roads with the loss of all hands. Incl perspex case, the item measures 122cm x 60cm x 94cm.
