A lovely Russian Christian Icon of Christ Pantocrator, from Latvia. We have examined the Icon with our electronic microscope and it appears to be 'written' in oil-egg tempura on wood with a silver-plated Oklad or Riza and gold-plated Nimbus. The painting covers the entire board which would suggest a prayerfully written/painted item for devotional use. The board is covered in faded woven purple cloth. It is rather naive in construction which rather suggests local village craftsmanship for home or Church us, as opposed to the factory or co-operative made items for tourists.
