Description 🔉

This is a stunning 1905 antique plate designed at the Castle Hedingham Pottery in Essex, created by Edward Bingham, beautifully designed, with careful attention to detail, with the Pottery 'backstamp' and date for (January)1905. The plate embraces an artistic style of the medieval period. This is an unusual piece, which, whilst it was made and signed by Edward Bingham, it was produced by Hexter, Humpherson & Co., of Newton Abbot, who bought the original Pottery, in 1901, and operated it under the name of the " Essex Art Pottery" until its closure in early February 1905 - which may suggest why it has a fired clay appearance, it is not coloured, nor has it been finally glazed. Certainly, with this fact in mind it must be a compelling addition for any antique ceramics collection, most particularly for a collector of Bingham Castle Hedingham Pottery, as this is a transitional piece, a Bingham Castle Hedingham design, yet produced at the very end of the production of Castle Hedingham ware.

  • Abbott Antiques is a small business selling antique and collectable quality items at affordable prices. We specialise in Curiosities, Religious pieces, Items of Provenance, miniature, rare and interesting items, although as a general dealer we sell a variety of items. Our belief is to encourage people in their collecting. We have many years of experience, having traded from our shop, various Antique Centres in Norfolk, selling both to local and international collectors and dealers. We offer also a 'finding service' and undertake research, at no extra cost. Personally, we collect little, although we are very fond of automata, having a small collection of such items.
