A lovely Figurine of the celebrated couple, The Ladies of Llangollen, Lady Eleanor Butler (1739–1829) and Sarah Ponsonby (1755–1831), who eloped together from Ireland and set up their home just outside the North Wales town of Llangollen. They were ladies of considerable learning and intellect and were visited by many famous people, including politicians, literary figures and even Royalty. In the fifty years of their friendship they never stayed away from home for one single night, where they were looked after by their devoted house-keeper Mary Caryll. It is about 8 inches high.
