Description 🔉

A beautiful 19th century turners chair in good condition. Note:

Turned chairs, also known as thrown chairs or spindle chairs, represent a distinct style of furniture that was popular during the late 16th and early 17th centuries in England, New England, and Holland, particularly during the Elizabethan and Jacobean eras. In this style of furniture, the individual wooden spindles that comprise the piece are crafted by shaping them with chisels and gouges while they are being rotated on a lathe. Craftsmen who specialized in creating such furniture were referred to as "turners" or "bodgers," which is where the surname Turner originates from.
